Downtown Art Walk moved to fourth Fridays

The Village Art Walk in downtown Nashville has moved from second Saturdays to fourth Fridays of each month through October. The next event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. May 25.

The 12 participating galleries include Hoosier Artist, Hereshome, The Emerald Pencil, B3 Gallery, Ascension Fine Arts, Brown County Art Guild, 4th Sister Vintage, Chateau Thomas Winery, Spears Gallery, Brown County Craft Gallery, Trilogy Gallery and the Brown County Art Gallery.

Friday art walks include food, music, wine tasting, demonstrations, paint-alongs and other special art events.

Florals ‘in bloom’ at art guild during May, June

Special events and a workshop are planned in conjunction with a free, two-month exhibit, “Blooms,” at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St.

“Present Blooms” will feature guild artist member works in florals, from still life to landscape. “Past Blooms” will feature hand-picked selections from the permanent collection plus recently discovered gardening notes written by artist V.J. Cariani.

Craft demonstrations taking place downtown

In celebration of its 40th year as an artist-owned and -run co-op, the Brown County Craft Gallery will have artists demonstrating their crafts on the Brown County Courthouse lawn on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20.

Demos between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. will include a spinning wheel with Marla Dawson; Jim Halvorson throwing pots; water drums and gourd art with Sue Westhues; Sidney Bolam carving stone; Michele Pollock using mixed media and George Goehl waving bubble wands.

At the same time, the craft gallery at 58 E. Main St. will have an open house with refreshments. All are welcome.

Learn to make jewelry at B3 gallery

Larry Davidson will offer an introduction to jewelry making from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at B3 Gallery. The class will include information on tools and supplies needed to begin creating jewelry.

Participants can make either a pair of earrings or a necklace to take home. A $5 fee will cover materials; tools and instruction will be provided.

Dinner theater performances scheduled at inn

Performances of “Tumbleweed: A Town of the Old West” will be presented as dinner theater at Artists Colony Inn on Saturday, May 19.

Shows start at 6 p.m. at the inn, 105 S. Van Buren St. Tickets, $50 per person, include dinner.

Other performance dates are Saturdays, June 16 and 30, July 28, Aug. 11 and 18, Sept. 1 and 8, Oct. 13, 20 and 27, and Nov. 17.

‘Spring into Art’ events at History Center

The Brown County Historical Society will host “Spring Into Art,” a local art show, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 25 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the History Center.

Friday night will feature Brown County Winery wine tasting and a piano concert at 7 p.m. by Dr. Jihyun Kim and Dr. Mark DeZwaan from Indiana University.

On Saturday, art will be sold and some local artists will showcase their talent with demonstrations.

Explore sound meditation, acoustics at guild

Reiki master practitioner Janiece Jaffe will lead an exploration of singing bowls and voice for sound healing at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 27 and again June 24. Events will be at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St.

Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat, blanket or pillow. A $10 to $15 offering is suggested.

Two-day workshop painting flowers at art guild

“The Art of Painting Flowers,” a two-day workshop with Brown County Art Guild member Pam Newell is planned from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3 at the guild. See artists at work at state parks, historic sites

The Indiana Arts Commission has scheduled its Arts in the Parks and Historic Sites programs for 2018. Many of the activities are at sites in Brown County.

Projects were funded to encourage the creation of art and public engagement with art around state parks, the forest system and historic sites.

Textile artist Daren Redman will conduct two fabric-dyeing workshops on Sundays at the T.C. Steele site. The workshops will be from noon to 4:30 p.m. June 3 and from noon to 4 p.m. July 1.

Joseph Alexander Clancy Clements will lecture on and perform “less common instruments and traditional music in Indiana during the 18th and 19th centuries.” Two Saturday programs remain, July 14 and Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. Both are at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site.

Visitors can hear Tom Roznowski on vocals and Mike Lucas on piano as they perform The Hoosier Songbook at the T.C. Steele site starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19.

Focusing on Indiana composers and musicians, Craig Brenner and the Crawdads will explore the blues, boogie-woogie and other music at Brown County State Park. The music will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept 1.

Patricia Bartels will present a painting demonstration at the kick-off celebration of the T.C. Steele “painting wagon” at the state historic site from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. This is dependent upon the wagon being completed by this date.

Paula Chambers will perform a lyrical hoop dance, “Falling Leaves,” at the T.C. Steele site from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

“Circus for a Day” with the Hudsucker Posse will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the T.C. Steele site. The troupe will demonstrate all of their props during a short performance and engage the audience afterward.

Indiana Heritage Arts annual exhibit opens in June

Indiana Heritage Arts’ 40th annual exhibition and sale opens to the public Saturday, June 9 and runs for 22 days at the Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive. Admission is free.

The IHA, a nonprofit, encourages artists with Hoosier connections to paint Brown County scenery and its people in the spirit of the traditional early Indiana artists who founded the art colony in the early 1900s.

This year’s judge, Stapleton Kearns, is a New England plein air and studio painter of more than 30 years.

Handmade market in October accepting vendors

The Brown County Handmade Market, Parkview Church’s craft show extravaganza, will be Saturday, Oct. 13 The market will feature a variety of artisans selling one-of-a-kind handmade and upcycled creations, including accessories, home decor, apparel, holiday items, gifts and more.

Vendor applications for handcrafted items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by application date. Booth rent proceeds will benefit the ministries of Parkview Church of the Nazarene.

Hoosier artists sought for America Recycles Day

COLUMBUS — In celebration of America Recycles Day, Nov. 14, the annual Déjà Vu Art and Fine Craft Show will take place from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at The Commons, a civic space downtown.

Event organizers are seeking professional artists and craftspeople who reuse and/or recycle materials to apply by the Friday, June 15 deadline.

A featured artist to be selected will receive mention in all publicity, a photo of his or her work featured on posters and post cards, free booth space and a complimentary stay Friday, Nov. 9 at the Hotel Indigo downtown.

Plein air paint out, luncheon planned June 23

Free music lessons are available for area youths ages 12 to 18 at the Brown County Enrichment for Teens Association Inc. (BETA) Center, upstairs at 45 S. Jefferson St.

Free guitar lessons by Nathan Dillon continue from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Shared art studio space available in town

B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.

S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.

S3 can provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.

The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”
