Club news for week of May 29

Bald Eagles

The Brown County Bald Eagles will remember the anniversary of D-Day with guest speaker Captain James Paulsen at a dinner buffet Saturday night, June 2 at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East.

Paulsen will focus on Medal of Honor recipient Edward Henry “Butch” O’Hare.

The event includes a meet-and-greet at 5 p.m. with drinks available in the Corn Crib bar, a welcome and buffet at 6 p.m., and a 50/50 raffle.  Bald Eagles insignia will be sold. The buffet costs $27 per person at registration. Family members are welcome; include names at sign-up. RSVPs are needed before Tuesday, May 29 at [email protected] or 812-988-2377.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club is preparing for its annual quilt show, Friday, June 1 to Sunday, June 3 at the Brown County History Center.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. The cafe will open at 10:30 a.m. with soup, sandwiches, sides, homemade pies, cookies and brownies available.

Members of the club will give demonstrations in quilting, weaving, spinning, and sewing. Besides live music, a raffle, quilts and demonstrations, gift shops and vendors will be set up.

Admission is $5 per person or free for children 12 and younger.

The club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present.

The next meeting will be June 7 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be June 12. The public is welcome.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. June 12 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be June 18. The public is welcome.
