Our Folks Honors: High school teacher Alecia Adams finalist for teacher award; locals graduate from college

The Indiana Council for Economic Education, Indiana Farm Bureau Foundation and the regional University Center network selected Brown County High School teacher Alecia Adams as a finalist for the Olin W. Davis Award for Exemplary Teaching of Economics.

Two teachers will be selected as statewide winners, one for elementary and one for secondary grades. Three to four regional winners will each receive $500 and the statewide winners receive $1,000. All will be honored on June 20, according to the Indiana Council for Economic Education.

EVANSVILLE — Sarah Nungester of Nashville graduated May 5 from the University of Evansville with a doctorate degree in physical therapy.

RICHMOND — Isabelle Wilhelm, daughter of Lee Wilhelm of Nashville and Leslie Wilfong of Columbus, was awarded a bachelor’s degree in religion from Earlham College May 5.

Zelton Kay

Brown County High School student Zelton Kay won an award out of all Indiana entries at the National History Day contest in Washington, D.C. His documentary, “The Troubles: Conflict and Compromise in Northern Ireland,” was named the outstanding senior project from Indiana. Less than 1 percent of National History Day entries make it to the national contest, and six Brown County students’ projects advanced to D.C. this year. More than 60 Indiana students competed at nationals and 11 honors were given to Indiana projects and students.

Van Buren Elementary School second-grader Allison Blee, center, was chosen as a finalist for Kids Compose 2018, a project of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
