School board approves donation, personnel changes

Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following June 7:

  • The elementary school handbook for 2018-2019 school year. It will be used at all three elementary schools.
  • An $1,800 donation to Brown County High School athletics from National Football League Alumni. This money will be used for the football program.
  • Hiring Savannah Lovins and Michael Harman to work as technology support for the summer of 2018 for $10 per hour, not to exceed 105 hours. They will help set up tablets for kindergarten through seventh-grade students, who will each have their own devices next school year.
  • The Brown County YMCA to use a bus from the Brown County Schools Transportation Department for their summer day camp program on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 2. All costs will be reimbursed to BCS by the Y.
  • Amending specifications for transportation contracts, changing “age of bus” to mean the date the bus was titled and not the date the bus was built. This was done so that drivers wouldn’t have to buy new buses before the current contract ends. This amendment is in place until this contract ends.
  • Transferring the after-school care program for students at Helmsburg Elementary School and Brown County Intermediate School from the Brown County YMCA back to each respective school for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Superintendent Laura Hammack attending State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick’s STEM Delegation with the Indiana Department of Education to Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China, from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4. All expenses are being paid for by the Regional Opportunities Initiative grant.
  • Appointing Sarah Cochran, Brown County Junior High School English language arts teacher, to complete necessary BCJHS library work during the summer of 2018, $25 per hour, not exceed 100 hours. This will be paid for by the ROI Ready Schools Implementation grant. Cochran will move the school’s library and catalog all the books.
