Exhibit by local artist opens Aug. 20 at gallery

“Art from a Creative Mind” featuring work by local artist Sally Greeno will open Monday, Aug. 20 at B3 Gallery.

An artist’s reception will take place during the Friday Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at B3, upstairs, 61 W. Main St. The show will run through Monday, Sept. 26.

Greeno enjoys experimenting with a variety of styles, working in acrylics and watercolor. Her show includes traditional pieces, abstracts, Brown County primitives and impressionist paintings. Greeno moved to Brown County and, after retirement, began painting.

Downtown Art Walk slated Friday, Aug. 24

From 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, the Fourth Friday Art Walk will include 13 galleries and studios downtown. Most will offer refreshments.

A guitar duo will play at Hoosier Artist Gallery, 45 S. Jefferson St. Pastel artist Lory Winford will demonstrate her work at HeresHome Studio, 15 N. Johnson St. (entrance facing Main Street). Jazz pianist Lucas Fain, a graduate student of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, will perform from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St. Other participating galleries will offer special activities.

Brochures with maps are available at the Visitors Center and galleries. The Art Walk is sponsored by the Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission.

Pet caricatures by Hoosier artist at gallery

Work by Hoosier artist Perry Couch will be featured Friday, Aug. 24 at Ascension Fine Arts, upstairs at 61 W. Main St.

An artist’s reception will take place during the Friday Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at the gallery. The show, “Sandy Whiskers: A Whimsical Menagerie,” will run through Sept. 26.

Working on wood with acrylic and colored pencil, Couch creates animal caricatures. He will create custom pieces from pet photos, making cat pirates, princesses or other persona. He received a degree in painting and drawing from Indiana University. He says, “I have always had a fondness for the tropics and the seashore. In my work, I often combine these themes to promote a feeling of calm and light-hearted whimsy.”

Register for pARTake fall workshops

A pARTake workshop painting “Misty Lake Scenes” will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Anabel Hopkins will lead participants in painting with acrylics in a lower-level room at the Brown County Community Foundation, 209 N. Van Buren St.

All materials, instruction and light refreshments will be  provided. Members of the Brown County Art Alliance can take the class for $35; others pay $40 per person.

Future pARTake painting workshops include “Pumpkin Patch” with M.K. Watkins on Sept. 15; “Autumn Landscapes” with Hopkins on Oct. 20; and “Sunflowers” with Watkins on Nov. 17.

New studio opening on Jackson Branch Ridge

The new Red Shed Studio will celebrate its opening with a reception from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. The studio is at 1403 N. Jackson Branch Ridge Road.

The collection features the late Norman Vincent Ulery‘s illustrative and modern art works from 1930 to 1976, created while living in Hollywood, California and Brown County. Also included are works from a few Brown County artists, as well as paintings once belonging to the late Onya La Tour.

Sea-themed art on display through August

An exhibit featuring maritime scenes will hang through August at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St. From tugs to tankers and seabirds to seashores, the display will include historic works from the permanent collection as well as new work from guild artist members, all related to the sea.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Registration open for Art Colony Weekend

Artists are able to register now for events happening during Brown County Art Colony Weekend Sept. 8 and 9.

Art Colony Weekend is a community celebration of the artistic history and future of Brown County.

The fourth annual Villagescape Plein Air Paint-out will take place Sunday, Sept. 9. Artists can register at bcartguildshop.com/education or in person at the guild on South Van Buren Street. The top prize is $1,000.

AGAIN, a festival of new art made with old stuff, will take place downtown between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. This is a new event, presented by the Emerald Pencil and Brown County Art Guild. It will be in the backyard of the Emerald Pencil, 23 N. Jefferson St. next to the Village Green.

Artists, artisans and designers who are working with found, scrounged, rescued, reimagined and reinvented objects can register for AGAIN at bcartguildshop.com/education. Works can be in any form, including two- and three-dimensional art, crafts, design, fashion and photography.

Each work must contain at least 75 percent previously used materials. The event is open to artists of all ages and will not be juried. Participants need to bring their own tables, chairs, canopy or tent.

Library to host party to kick off Art Colony Weekend

A prelude pARTy with wine, light refreshments, local musicians and artisans will begin the Art Colony Weekend Friday evening, Sept. 7 at the Brown County Public Library.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the evening will include jazz, swing and blues performed by violinist Carolyn Dutton and guitarist David Gulyas. Artisans at the event will include M.K. Watkins, Jenni Root, Chris Gustin and Ann Woods. Group painting, a silent auction and tours of the library’s permanent art collection will be available.

Tickets for the event cost $10 each. Proceeds will benefit library programming and help fund the purchase of a C. Curry Bohm historical painting.

Music-themed artwork on display at Playhouse

The Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission is coordinating an art show at the Brown County Playhouse. It began during the Indiana Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and will remain on display at The Playhouse through Sunday, Sept. 30. All work is for sale.

Collectors’ showcase will open Sept. 14

Brown County Art Galley, 1 Artist Drive, will host a collectors’ showcase, “Steele & Shulz: A Brown County Partnership Exhibit,” providing a look at art work by T.C. Steele and Adolph Shulz.

The gallery will kick off the exhibit with an opening reception Friday, Sept. 14. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the reception will include wine, food, music and a color catalog. The reception costs $40 per person, with admission for Saturday, Sept. 15 and a $5 discount for the Sunday, Sept. 16 program. All three days’ events are $45 per person.

The exhibit and entire galley will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Admission of $5 per person includes a color catalog.

From noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, the exhibit will be open for $10 per person. The price includes a program by Rachel Perry at 2 p.m. and a color catalog.

The exhibit will continue during regular hours through Sunday, Oct. 28.

Handmade market in October accepting vendors

The Brown County Handmade Market, Parkview Church of the Nazarene’s craft show extravaganza, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

The market will feature a variety of artisans selling one-of-a-kind handmade and upcycled creations, including accessories, home decor, apparel, holiday items, gifts and more. It will include vendors and food, seating areas, a photo booth and a children’s activity area.

Vendor applications for handcrafted items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis by application date. Booth rent proceeds will benefit the ministries of Parkview Church of the Nazarene. For applications and event details, visit BCHandmadeMarket.com.

The Paint Box art gallery, 92 W. Franklin in Antique Alley, is celebrating its 45th year in Nashville.

B3 Gallery, in downtown Nashville at 61 W. Main St., is expanding. The owners are seeking artists to display 2-D and 3-D work.

Artists would have a co-op type arrangement but with no work requirements.

Shared art studio space available in town

B3 Gallery has created a space for artists and the community to come together.

S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space” is on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.

S3 can provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.

The organizers seek “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space.”

Donations of under-utilized equipment or specialty tools also are being accepted.
