Letter: Church group works with other churches to give presents

To the editor:

We are blessed to be part of the Unity Baptist Church Olympian program every Wednesday night. We teach God’s word to preschool through high school-aged students.

They complete daily Bible study and our program teaches each child to assist in service ministry projects.

This year they chose to fill shoe boxes for Brown County preschool children in need at all three elementary schools as well as the Head Start program. We instill Jesus’s love to even the very youngest, to bring joy to those in need.

Children in the Wednesday night Word of Life program at Unity Baptist Church wrapped presents in shoe boxes for preschool students at Helmsburg, Sprunica and Van Buren elementary schools along with students in Head Start.

After contacting Dr. Laura Hammack, superintendent of Brown County Schools, we were informed there were 110 children plus 16 in the Head Start program.

We asked our community churches for assistance and were blessed to receive assistance form Bean Blossom Community Church, Parkview Church and Saint David’s Episcopal Church.

I can’t thank the members of Unity Baptist enough for their unbelievable financial support and prayers to make this a reality for our Olympians. We also have to give a big shout out to McDonald’s in Nashville, Mari Miller from the assessor’s office, Franklin Meijer, private donations and Wal-Mart.

In a world of turmoil, it is a true blessing to see these young children and teens unselfishly give their time and bless those with less during this Christmas season.

Thank you,

Judi Gibson, Nashville
