Honors: Eli deWeerdt; Chloee Robison

Eli deWeerdt

LAFAYETTE — Eli deWeerdt, a member of the Brown County High School band, has been selected to participate in the 58th annual Indiana All-State High School Band Festival.

Playing trumpet, de Weerdt earned this honor after a highly competitive audition in January at nine centers across the state. A committee reviewed recordings of 700 young musicians who applied to audition. From the recordings, 165 students from 56 high schools were selected to participate in this year’s festival.

In addition to the 88-member regular All-State Band, there is an 87-member select Honor Band. Last year, de Weerdt was selected as first trumpet in the Honor Band.

A concert will be performed at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10 in the Elliott Hall of Music on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Chloee Robison

Brown County High School student Chloee Robison has received an honorable mention for the National Center for Women and Technology’s Aspiration Award.

Last year, Robison received a grant to “conduct research over the effect of various auditory stimuli on pain tolerance,” her nomination read. “Her research stemmed from a burst of interest in psychology, but she was especially excited to work with her own electroencephalogram. The project introduced her to new technologies that are typically out of reach for students.”

This is one of many research projects Robison has conducted since starting to compete in science fairs in the fifth grade.

Robison, who will enter college in the fall of 2020, plans to be a water conservation specialist, her nomination reads.
