Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, May 9 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St. David Carter will discuss his ascents of Mt. Everest including going part of the way up, reaching the summit and trekking around. He will talk about how those trips influenced his life.

Carter is an adventurer, businessman, philanthropist and survivor. He became interested in the outdoors through his family’s lumber business Cartel-Lee ProBuild. Carter is still active in the business and it led to him climbing Mt. Rainier when he was 15.

He was trekking below the base camp of Everest when a massive earthquake struck there in 2015. He and his colleagues provided aid to the Nepalese from their own equipment and supplies. They subsequently raised funds for and arranged delivery of relief for Nepal.

One of Carter’s ascents was chronicled in the NOVA documentary “Everest — The Death Zone.” Carter overcame dyslexia and was involved in authorizing Washington Township schools in northern Indianapolis to teach international baccalaureate programs.
