PHOTO GALLERY: Mabel B. Annis Memorial Student Art Competition

Photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, mixed media and more — Brown County students’ artistic talents are have been on display for the past two weeks at the Brown County Art Gallery.

There were so many entries into the Mabel B. Annis Memorial Student Art Competition, they took up two gallery rooms this year, said Gallery Manager Jeanne Bennett.

The contest, started 21 years ago, is open to junior and senior high school students in seven counties, including 14 schools. Each year, the Annis Memorial Trust awards more than $1,800 in prize money.

This year, seven of the winners were from Brown County, including Junior High Art Teacher of the Year, Laurette Roales. Indiana Heritage Arts awarded her $150.

Local student winners were:

  • BEST OF SHOW, high school photography competition: Abby Johnson, Brown County High School, $150 award
  • JUDGE’S AWARD, high school art competition: Cole Hedrick, Brown County High School, $75 award
  • JUDGE’S AWARD, high school art competition: Bella Hobbs, Brown County High School, $75 award
  • JUDGE’S AWARD, high school art competition: Crystal Williams, Brown County High School, $75 award
  • JUDGE’S AWARD, junior high art competition: Abbi Hall, Brown County Junior High School, $75 award
  • JUDGE’S AWARD, junior high art competition: Madalyn Purlee, Brown County Junior High School, $75 award
