SCHOOL NEWS: Board approves handbooks, retirement notices; donations to pay lunch debt, cover Eagle Manufacturing summer program

Donation made to Eagle Manufacturing program

Eagle Manufacturing students will have internships through Conexus this summer thanks in part to a community member who donated money to help pay their teacher’s salary this summer.

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees approved a $4,274.03 donation from Sean Milloy at their June 6 meeting. Milloy serves on the Career Resource Center of Brown County Steering Committee and on the Eagle Manufacturing Advisory Board.

The students will work internships through Conexus and get paid for their work this summer, Superintendent Laura Hammack said.

One of the stipulations with Conexus was that the school district had to pay their educator, Chris Townsend, to work their program. Hammack said that the district was able to pay a portion of his salary with a reimbursement from the state for summer school, but it did not cover the entire cost.

The district was trying to find money to cover the balance when Milloy “very kindly stepped forward and just decided to write the check himself, which is amazing,” Hammack said.

“I called him. He is extraordinarily humble. He doesn’t want anything, but I think that he’s absolutely amazing and what a gift for our program,” she said.

Sprunica Elementary School students will start next school year without any lunch debt.

An anonymous donor has stepped forward to cover the lunch debt at Sprunica. The $847.44 donation was approved at the June 6 Brown County School Board of Trustees meeting.

“We had someone give us a call and ask to pay off all of the lunch debt at Sprunica. They did not want any credit for it,” Superintendent Laura Hammack said.
