Every month throughout this past school year, volunteers from our community and the surrounding area have visited Brown County Junior High School to participate in the Career Resource Center of Brown County’s Speakers Bureau sessions.

On May 24, our eighth-grade students heard from a panel of speakers about the excellent careers that are open to them in the field of health care. Volunteers spoke about the opportunities available in nursing, optometry and occupational therapy assisting.

Our local speakers were Kimber Settle, director of nursing at Brown County Health and Living, and Dr. Ben Gootee, optometrist at Brown County Eye Care.

The students also heard from Julie Carson, director of the occupational therapy assistant program at Indiana Wesleyan University.

After hearing from the panel members, students were able to ask them specific questions and obtain follow-up materials through their classroom teachers.
