Junior high closing for cleaning due to COVID case

Parents received a phone call this afternoon reporting that a Brown County Junior High School teacher had tested positive for COVID-19, and that the school building would be closing immediately for deep cleaning.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, all junior high students will be participating in eLearning instead of in-person school.

Superintendent Laura Hammack sent the message around 3:30 p.m., shortly after school let out for the day:

“We received notification today that a staff member at Brown County Junior High School tested positive for Covid-19. This staff member is asymptomatic and was tested for reasons related to future travel plans. Because this staff member has been reporting to work over the past two days, we need to deploy a comprehensive process for mitigating contamination.
“As such, Brown County Junior High School will be closed on Wednesday, October 14 for deep cleaning. All BCJHS students will participate in eLearning on Wednesday, October 14. Assignments will be posted by 9am.
“Parents/Guardians of close contacts to this staff member will be contacted this evening. Close contacts will need to remain in quarantine for 14 days. The corporation nurse and contact tracer will provide more details regarding quarantine requirements.
“Students at all other schools will have a typical in-person school day on Wednesday, October 14.
“All BCJHS activities as of 3:00pm today are cancelled and will resume normal school operations on Thursday, October 14. This includes the BCJHS football game and We the People practice.  Parents should pick students up at BCJHS as soon as possible.”
