The Brown County Rotary Club will meet over Zoom at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21.

The guest speaker will be Liz Marthaler, district manager of the Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District (BCSWCD). Soil and water conservation districts provide soil and water conservation expertise and services to private landowners, who own 96 percent of Indiana land.

Marthaler will discuss how BCSWCD is organized and the variety of services that it offers to landowners including surveys of wildlife and invasive species, soil and well water testing, education and certification, and assistance with applications for grants to achieve conservation goals.

Prior to becoming district manager, Marthaler worked for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as an interpretive naturalist at Brown County State Park and in environmental education focusing on conservation. She is an outdoor enthusiast, excited about getting people engaged in outdoor recreation and interested in what the natural world has to offer. In her free time, she is likely to be hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping or mountain biking. She earned a bachelor’s degree in natural resources with a concentration in soil and water conservation from Ball State University where she was a Building Better Communities Fellow.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community, are invited to attend the virtual session. Visit www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and click on the “Contact us” URL to obtain a link to the Zoom meeting.
