ART BRIEFS: Concert in Bean Blossom this weekend; buy raffle tickets to support Art Guild; local galleries open

Bean Blossom music series

The Hamilton Creek Bluegrass Band will perform at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 11 State Road 45, on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. as part of the Bean Blossom Music Series.

There will be a reception at the concert and an opportunity to meet the artists. The concert is free, but donations are welcome.

Art Guild raffle tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the Brown County Art Guild’s annual raffle, which will be held on Nov. 19. The winner of the raffle will receive the oil painting, “On a Clear Day” by Ronald P. Mack. Tickets are one for $30, two for $50 or five for $100 and can be purchased at the guild.

The guild is located at 48 S. Van Buren St. and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Exhibitions, sales at art gallery

The 2022 gallery event calendar is as follows:

Oct. 1 to Nov. 13: Collector’s Showcase “Snowfall” with a reception on Oct. 1.

The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Parking and admission are free.

Upcoming classes at Healing Hearts

Healing Hearts and Memory Making, 173 S. Van Buren St., will host several art classes in the coming weeks.

“Sewing on Paper” will take place on Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Two different paper bag projects involving sewing will be available.

“Family Halloween Activities” will happen on Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Several games and crafts will be available.

“Open Craft and Game Night” is planned for Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants can bring their own crafts and games to play.

Those interested are asked to register for each event one day prior to the date and the class fee is due upon registration. Credit cards and PayPal are accepted. For questions, call 812-988-6923.

More acts announced for music center

The Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Blvd., continues to announce new shows for 2022 including Jeff Beck, Lindsey Buckingham, Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis.

  • The Wallflowers will perform on Dec. 16 as part of their “WTTS Holiday Can Concert” tour. The band is known for their hits including “Bringing Down the Horse” and “Glad All Over.”
  • Sara Evans will perform on Dec. 11 as part of her “Go Tell it on the Mountain” tour. Evans is the fifth most-played female artist on country radio in the last two decades.
  • Night Ranger will perform on Nov. 11. The band has sold over 17 million albums worldwide and is known for their hits including “Sister Christian” and “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.”
  • The Marshall Tucker Band will perform on Oct. 21. The band is known for their heartfelt hits including “Heard It in a Love Song” and “Can’t You See.”
  • Phil Vassar and Deana Carter will perform on Nov. 26 as part of their “Coming Home for Christmas” tour. Vassar is a two time ASCAP Songwriter of the year and Carter is a folk singer and songwriter from Nashville.
  • Buckingham will perform on Nov. 3. Buckingham has released seven studio and three live albums as a solo artist. He was previously a member of Fleetwood Mac.
  • Guitarist Jeff Beck will take center stage on Oct. 19. Beck is considered one of the most talented guitarists in the world and has earned eight Grammy awards, according to a music center press release.
  • Country music band Sawyer Brown will perform on Oct. 8. The band auditioned for the TV show “Star Search” in 1983 and won the $100,000 grand prize that came with a record contract. Their hits include “Step That Step,” “Some Girls Do” and “Thank God for You.”
  • County artists Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis will perform on Oct. 7 as part of their Glitz and Glamour Tour. Combined, they have recorded 28 top 10 hits and have sold more than 18 million records.
  • “Menopause the Musical” will take center stage on Oct. 1. The musical is now in its 20th year and 16th as the longest-running musical in Las Vegas history.
  • Lee Greenwood will perform on Oct. 20. Greenwood is most known for his signature song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” which was originally released and successful in 1984. Greenwood has earned multiple Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards, a Grammy award for Top Male Vocal Performance and many others.
  • Joe Satriani will perform on Oct. 23. The guitarist has released 19 studio albums and is the founder of the all-star “G3” extravaganza. Satriani released his new album, “The Elephants of Mars” on April 8.
  • Rick Springfield will perform on Jan. 27. The Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and musician has sold 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody” and “Human Touch.”
  • Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will perform their Wild & Swingin’ Holiday Party on Dec. 7. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is an American swing and jazz band known for their arrangements of classic holiday songs.

Coming soon to the Playhouse

The Playhouse will offer free entertainment in conjunction with the Fourth Friday Art Walk each month through October. Entertainment will start at 6:30 p.m. featuring bands of different genres. Bar and concessions will be open and the Artist Associates of Brown County art gallery will be the highlight.

  • Musicians Eric Brown and Jenn Cristy will perform their acoustic show “Jenn and Eric: Simply Acoustic. Simply Amazing” beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, 13 and 20. Tickets are $20.
  • On Oct. 7, “Roots of Rock: A Concert Performance of Early Rock n’ Roll” will begin at 7:30 p.m. The show will also happen on Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $32.50.
  • “Summer of ‘69: Music from the Woodstock Era” will be performed by musicians Eric Brown and Jenn Cristy on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32.50.
  • “The Slightly Haunted Puppet Show” will be performed on Oct. 14 and 15 at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $10.
  • Eric Brown and the Parrotheads will perform “Wastin’ Away in Margaritaville: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffet” on Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32.50.

Applications open for holiday craft show

Applications for the Seasons Holiday Art and Craft Show 2022 are now being accepted.

The show dates are Friday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seasons Lodge Event Center, 560 State Road 46 East. The show has been a Thanksgiving weekend tradition for nearly 40 years.

Artists and crafters are invited to apply to the juried show through the show’s website, seasonsartandcraftshow.com. Applications are also available in the Seasons Lodge business office.
