Where’s There? Do you know where Dakota is?

Hey Brown County, it’s Dakota again. Guess who’s back, back again? — Did I totally just age myself with that song reference? Eighties, ‘90s and 2000s babies, you know what I’m talking about.

This week on my exploration I faced hail, flooding and potential snow flurries, but that was only a day. That’s Indiana weather for you, it always keeps us on our toes.

On my quest, I saw this very well known structure off of State Road 46. This bridge is a gatekeeper for all things natural, colorful and serene. Behind it are nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, rippling creeks and grassy fields. OK, OK — can you tell I have been reading Tolkien?

Visitors are familiar with this place, sometimes it is the first thing they see when going on their explorations. Many locals drive past it on their daily commutes. So, Brown County, Where’s There?

Think you know where I am this week? Send us an email at [email protected] or stop by the office and give us your guess in person. We will randomly pick someone who answered correctly to receive a copy of 175 years of Brown County.

Last week we received five correct guesses that I was at the Bill Monroe Music Park. What gave it away? Thank you to Michelle Satter, Pam Hochstetler, Sharon Roth, Edith Snyder and our mystery guesser J. Carnahan. It’s people like you guys who fuel my mission of being familiar with every single building and structure in Brown County— I still have a ways to go, so you can be expecting more from me until then.

But for now, congratulations to our winner. After a random drawing … drum roll please, the winner for this week is our local mystery man J. Carnahan! Sorry, all we have is an email address, so congrats J … whoever you are.

Stop by the office during regular office hours (M-F, 9-4) to receive your very own copy of 175 Years of Brown County. We are out and about a lot, so you might want to call ahead (988-2221) to make sure I’m here! And besides, we want to find out who you are!
