Thoughts for the community during this wonderful Brown County fall season. I wish to express my sympathy to Jerry Pitman for the loss of his mother, and to the family of Elmer Parsley to the loss of a wonderful man and blessings on both of these people and families that I had opportunity to interact with, and enjoy some of their life with them, they were wonderful people and we will miss them.

As we head into the election season, here are some thoughts and considerations for all voters. I will state up front that I was born and bred Republican and my husband was a born and bred Democrat (Nashville born brat), but we voted for who is the best person we thought for any given office, local, state and federal, after having conversation. The only time I ever voted a straight ticket was the very first time that I ever voted, and that was before Watergate.

Brown county missed a great opportunity with a Stellar program grant due to the influence of people not in office to just to continue to study, study, study without action to take advantage of the grant with the comment that we can apply next year! And for your information, the commissioners had to vote unanimously on the proposal and it was 2 for and 1 against. And there is no confirmation that the Stellar grant will be available next year or when it will be available again. I believe it has been 10 years since the last one. The Planning Committee is working to get the Comprehensive Plan updated with the funds given to us by the Brown County Community Foundation that has to be paid out by 12/31/24 so that we can apply for grants to complete the upgrade of the ordinances to better serve our community.

We need people who are working for the benefit of the community to retain the history and culture of Brown County and to improve what we need; infrastructure, water, septics / sewers, safety, tourism, housing, schools and recruitment of families to our county to improve the age range of our community for now and the future.

Please do your research, reading, reach out to the appropriate people to get your questions answered.

And go forth today and everyday enjoying your life and community in Brown County.
