Final Village Art Walk this Saturday

Locals and visitors can meet local artists and see them work during this year’s final free, self-guided tour of 15 downtown Nashville galleries.

The Village Art Walk, from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 11, features local, original and regional fine arts and crafts, with demonstrations, music and refreshments available at many galleries.

Photographer to debut at gallery downtown

Sixteen-year-old Jordyn Fender of Bloomington will have her first photography show at B3 Gallery in Nashville Nov. 9 through Dec. 5.

Fender will be at the gallery, on the second floor at 61 W. Main St., during the Village Art Walk from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

Fender has had an interest in photography since she was 5. She is currently studying with Kip May in Bloomington.

“For me, photography has become more than just a hobby; it has become my passion, my drive and my vision. I dream of becoming a professional photographer and traveling the world taking photos,” Fender writes. “I hope my photos can inspire the world, help create change, and capture beauty in every shot.”

Annual art show celebrates America Recycles Day

COLUMBUS — Déjà Vu Art and Fine Craft Show, featuring professional artists who repurpose materials to create their work, returns to The Commons in downtown Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 11. Hours for the show are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Held in celebration of America Recycles Day, some of the art and fine crafts featured include jewelry, sculpture, weaving, wearable art, woodworking, leatherwork and mosaics, all created from scrap materials or items that have been repurposed.

Seventy artists from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio are participating, including seven who live in Brown County: Lu Brunnemer, Monique Cagle, Brad Cox, Barb Davis, Bob and Chris Gustin and Rose Poe.

Introduction to macro-photography offered

Jessica Bussert will conduct a free macro-photography workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

Macro-photography is taking pictures of small items at larger-than-life size. Those who attend the workshop at B3 Gallery, on the second floor at 61 W. Main St., will learn techniques that are affordable and accessible to most folks.

A portion of the scheduled time will be a regular Brown County Photography Club meeting.

Indiana Artists’ member exhibit up now at gallery

The Indiana Artists’ centennial members show and sale is featured through Friday, Dec. 15 at the Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive.

The exhibition is open during regular gallery hours. A reception with the artists was Nov. 5 at the gallery.

Indiana Artists is an organization of more than 150 professional artists from Indiana engaged in all disciplines of art. Many Brown County artists were involved when the group was founded more than 100 years ago, and many local artists are in the group now.

Weave-in, Spin-in planned monthly at library

Weavers and spinners of all skill levels can bring looms, spindles and wheels to the Brown County Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16.

Weaving and spinning experts and beginners are welcome to ask questions and to share projects and ideas at the free event.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, the Brown County Public Library will host a free program to make holiday items such as cards, gift bags, tags and decorations.

Holiday art/craft show returns to The Seasons

The Seasons Holiday Art and Craft Show will take place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24 and 25 at The Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East.

This is a juried show which has been going on for more than 40 years. Admission to visitors is free. Show hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Goods include metal jewelry, handmade baskets, primitive paintings, soaps, mosaic and stained glass, knitted clothing, wood burning and scroll work, handmade candles, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), handmade quilts, comforters, rag rugs, wooden toys, ceramics, foot jewelry, decorative clothing, wooden hand-painted Christmas decorations as well as fresh pine wreaths and swags sold by the Brown County 4-H Club. The center is handicapped-accessible.

Guests can vote for their favorite exhibitor for the People’s Choice Award.The winning artist or crafter will receive a cash prize. Cash prizes also will be given for best 2D and 3D work.

Shared art studio space launching in town

B3 Gallery is creating a space for artists and the community to come together.

S3, the Nashville “shared studio and maker space,” will be be on the second floor of the gallery at 61 W. Main St. It is envisioned as a meeting area for artists, craftspeople, inventors, clubs, seminars, classes or individuals.

S3 will provide painting and drawing easels, an alternative process darkroom, macro photography equipment, a digital projector, a glass annealing kiln and burnout kiln, PCB etching equipment and tanks, leaded glass tools, metal forming and casting tools, electronics and robotics fabrication tools, various computer numerical control tools, a scroll saw, band saw, drill press, centrifuge, bench grinder/polisher, laser cutter/engraver, air compressor, vacuum pumps and chemistry vent hood.

The organizers are seeking “fun, energetic, enthusiastic and creative people to bring life to the space,” which is “in its infancy.”

Donations of under-utilized equipment or specialty tools also are being accepted.

Studio, display space available in gallery

B3 Gallery, 61 W. Main St., is seeking additional Hoosier artwork to display.

All varieties of 3-D work are sought, as well as 2-D space for artists not currently affiliated with a local gallery.

Studio space also is available for artists who need a dedicated space to work, to give demonstrations or classes and to display their work.

The Paint Box art gallery, 92 W. Franklin in Antique Alley, is seeking artists to display their work as panels become available.

The inaugural Winter in the Uplands market will feature art, wine tasting and holiday shopping with all nine wineries of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive on East Main Street.

Gallery exhibits will be open to explore and several members of the gallery will be on hand doing art demonstrations.

Each $10 ticket includes wine tasting, a small cheese plate and a souvenir Uplands Wine Trail glass. A portion of ticket sales will go to benefit The Brown County Art Gallery.

Winter ukulele festival set at local inn

Grand Ole Opry star Emi Sunshine and the Rain will perform during the Brown County Ukulele Festival at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East, in January.

Hosted by Mainland Ukes, the three-day, family-friendly festival will run from 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018.

Events include ukulele workshops for beginners to advanced-level players, evening concerts, open mics, “strum-alongs” and jamming.

Tickets for the festival are $50 (hotel stay not included); tickets include access to all concerts, open mics and workshops.
