Three new COVID cases reported at two schools

Three new student COVID-19 cases have been reported at two schools, but neither school will close for cleaning tomorrow.

Superintendent Laura Hammack sent the following message to parents this afternoon:

“We received notification today, 11/9/20, that 2 students at Brown County High School and 1 student at Brown County Junior High School have tested positive for Covid-19.

“These students have not been in school since the beginning/middle of last week.  Close contacts were identified this morning and are currently being released from school before the end of the school day.

“Because the students who tested positive have not been in school for five to seven days, the Brown County Health Department finds it unnecessary for Brown County High School and Brown County Junior High School to be closed tomorrow for cleaning.  The Brown County Health Department is requiring our custodial teams to deploy deep sanitization overnight.

“As such, all schools in Brown County Schools will be in session on Tuesday, November 10th.

“As always, please be vigilant in monitoring your child for symptoms of Covid-19 before they attend school.  If your child is symptomatic, please keep your child at home and call the school to receive further instructions.

“I will be on Facebook Live/YouTube Live at 5:30pm this evening to talk specifically about Covid-19 school response protocol, our overall return to school plans, and answer any questions.”

This is the second time in less than a week that parents have received a message like this.

All Brown County schools, though, have remained in the “green” zone, with students able to attend class in person if that’s the option they chose for the current trimester.
