Jean Pieper

FRANKLIN — Dorothy “Jean” McGuire Pieper will turn 100 on May 31, 2021.

Jean was born in Whiteland and raised in Brown County between Helmsburg and Trevlac on State Road 45, on the farm where her father was born and raised and later owned.

Jean walked to Branstetter one-room grade school and graduated from Helmsburg High School. She attended Indiana Business College and was employed by REMC in Columbus where she met and married her children’s father. Marnie and Pete were born of that union.

During WWII, Jean, her children, younger brother, her sister and child lived on the farm to care for the animals and crops while her parents, Roy and Ruby McGuire, were living in Indianapolis and working for the war effort. After the war, Jean was employed by Eli Lilly for more than 39 years, starting in filling and eventually managing a laboratory in biochemical research.

Jean was active in the Helmsburg Eastern Star where she was worthy matron and later a page with the Indiana Grand Chapter. She remains a 70-plus-member of the OES.

Jean stayed active during her children’s school activities and continued with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. She has resided at Compass Park, Indiana Masonic Home for 14 years and remains active traveling and with numerous activities offered her by IMH.
