Letters: Thanks to all who helped with cleanup event

To the editor:

The board of Keep Brown County Beautiful would like to thank the following for their donations to the Great American Cleanup on April 22: Cummins of Columbus, Bear Hardware of Nashville, Mary Ann Cline, Jeanne Lager, EMTs of Brown County and all the volunteers from Cummins and the community.

Our first year was a big success, with litter pickup of over 60 bags of trash on a total of 11 county roads. We were also able to clean up and plant perennials along the parking lot belonging to the Brown County History Center. Later, a tree was planted to commemorate the GACU, Arbor Day and Earth Day. The Nashville Tree Board provided this tree and we wish to thank them for this donation. A special thank-you also to Jim Waters for his volunteer efforts and for all the pastries he brought over to us.

Following the conclusion of the work, everyone returned to the Pavilion and had hot dogs and chips. Everyone worked especially hard and we also had a great time. I want to thank board member Allison Shoaf for arranging this event.

Watch for future cleanup events and plan to join us. If you have questions about Keep Brown County Beautiful, please call me at 812-327-9617. Our board meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Brown County Community Foundation.
