Rotary club
Barry Herring will address the evolution and current status of the Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center project at the Brown County Rotary Club meeting on Thursday, Dec. 7.
The breakfast meeting starts at 7:15 a.m. at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St. It’s open to members all of the community, especially those interested in opportunities to be of service.
Herring is a member of the Brown County Convention and Visitors Commission. His family recently purchased and renovated the Brown County Inn. He retired from developing commercial shopping centers.
WRAPS
The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting is Dec. 7. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.
Widowed group
The Brown County Widowed Group will meet for a Christmas lunch at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at The Seasons Lodge. Lunch will be ordered from the menu in the lodge’s restaurant, 560 State Road 46 East.

Bald Eagles
Alan Teller of Kokomo will discuss the development and history of gliders throughout WWII when the Brown County Bald Eagles meet at noon Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Brown County Inn.
Teller’s presentation will include a little-known program of using gliders to carry both men and equipment into combat; battles and theaters where gliders were used in the war; how the glider program was almost scrapped and other details.
The Brown County Bald Eagles is a group of military veterans and others interested in aviation and its history. The group meets twice a year and has done so for more than 25 years.
Dress is casual. A fee of $18 cash or check at the door will cover the chicken buffet lunch. The inn is at 51 State Road 46 East.

Weight-loss group
COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Cemetery preservation society
The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, has changed its meeting dates and times to 1 and 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. The cemetery preservation committee will meet in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The public is welcome at all events.
Peaceful Valley Heritage
Mark Dollase of Indiana Landmarks will discuss opportunities for historic old town Nashville with the Peaceful Valley Heritage preservation group.
The Directory of Historic Structures lists 70 buildings as “old-town Nashville.”
