Club news for week of July 4

Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3 at the Brown County Public Library. After watching a video, the club will discuss how to control predators. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.

Pioneer Women

The Pioneer Women’s Club meets each Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the History Center, 90 E. Gould St. Interested women are welcome.

Rotary Club

James Tanneberger will discuss South Central Indiana Rural Electric Membership Corporation’s initiative to bring fiber-to-the-wall universal broadband to its entire service area when the Brown County Rotary Club meets for breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, July 5 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn.

The chief executive officer of SCI-REMC, Tanneberger also will talk about services the upgrade will enable. He was appointed CEO in September 2017 after working his way up in the electric power utility industry. Tanneberger is a licensed professional engineer with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M and a master’s from the University of Houston.

Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting at 105 S. Van Buren St., especially those interested in learning about and helping with Rotary activities and projects.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting will be July 5 at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.

Weight-loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to try the club for free. Beekeepers club

The 10 o’clock Beeline Beekeepers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9 in a lower-level meeting room of the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane.

The club welcomes anyone interested in bees or beekeeping; those interested in starting a beehive are particularly encouraged to attend. Experienced beekeepers are available as mentors.

The major topic of discussion Monday night will be dealing with the nectar flow.

Cemetery society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, meets at 1 p.m. and again at 4:15 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in the archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St. The next meeting will be July 10. The public is welcome.

Preservation group

The Peaceful Valley Heritage Inc. preservation group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at the Howard F. Hughes Community Building, 209 N. Van Buren St. All are welcome.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the Brown County Library. Bill Heidt will present a program on the hand-held Shaper Origin CNC router system.

According to Charlie Roush, “A CNC router is connected to a computer and once you program a task — lettering, different shapes, specific designs, etc. — it goes to work. I have seen two big ones make flooring designs and special shapes in wood. The hand-held part should be intriguing.”

Widowed group

BEAN BLOSSOM — The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at noon Saturday, July 14 for a pitch-in dinner at 5639 Little Fox Lane. Meat will be provided. Bring a dish to share and a folding lawn chair if convenient.

To carpool as recommended, meet in St. David’s Episcopal Church parking lot before 11:45 a.m. departure.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m the third Monday of each month in a lower-level meeting room at the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting will be July 16. The public is welcome.
